This course provides learners with information & instruction on safe patient handling techniques which, if used correctly, may help prevent a back injury.
Course Aims and Objectives:
On completion of the Patient Handling course, learners will;
- Be aware of health & safety legislation
- Understand the basic anatomy of the musculoskeletal system & how it works
- Understand the practical techniques used to safely move or handle patients safely
Course Programme:
- Rolling the patient in bed - Sitting up
- Moving the patient around the bed using slide sheets
- Sitting the patient on the side of the bed - Sitting to standing
- Moving the patient from the bed to a chair - Walking the patient
- Movement of patient from bed to a trolley
- Use of hoist
Training Methods:
Classroom based presentation with a practical demonstration & practice by learners

All staff or individuals in the healthcare sector or those who care for elderly patients or family members who may need assistance
Assessment & Certification:
To receive certification for patient handling, all learners must successfully complete both the theory & practical components of the course.
